AMSOIL IN BIG AIR COMPRESSORS...

In 1987, I was the Maintenance Mgr. for a refinery in the Corpus Christi, TX area. A friend of mine, named Jerry, had just run on to AMSOIL and was real excited about what it had done in his truck, so I put Amsoil into the truck that I was driving at the time. I did a lot of driving for the U S Navy all over the Southern States. So when I did put the oil into my truck the temperature on the engine dropped a lot and just barely got of the Cold mark. I drove down to the Hot city of Laredo to inspect the Navy Reserve Center here. That was during the hot summer and the temp. in that place was hot, but the truck temperature still stayed just off the cold mark.

That convinced me to try this stuff on one of the units at the refinery. I picked a spot that run hot and did take a lot of maintenance to keep it running. I selected the plant air compressors. These were driven by electric motors and they were 150hp. I looked up the record for the first ones history. It had run approximately three months at a time and then usually had to come down for an overhaul. The exhaust air temperature was usually between 160 and 180 degrees.

So I ordered the crew to drain he oil sump and put in this stuff that Jerry had brought over and I had tried in my truck. I did it without the consent of anyone above me in refinery management. I knew that if the thing went down and the crew told the plant mgr. what I ha d done without his approval I would be looking for another job. I had seen it work in my truck, so I thought that it should work in any other piece of rotating equipment.

Well, was I and the crew surprised. The electrical load on the motor dropped almost 20% and the discharge temp. on the air dropped down from 160 to 130 degrees. I have to say that I was excited about what happened, but I was afraid to say much because I had done this without permission of anyone.

I just left the oil in the machine and watched the operating logs to check for a change in the operationg conditions. The thing ran without a shut down for six months. I got a little worried because it was now overdue for a downtime for over twice the time it normally took for a turnaround.

We did take it down and found that the wear on the machine was much less than normally on a three month's run. I did not say much to management until the unit operations superintendent. came in and I said that we had tried some new oil that we'd heard about at a seminar some time back and were testing it. I showed him the logs and he was pleased over the increase of the run time and only wanted to make sure that we did not tear up the unit with these experiments.

I can only say that this was one real great trial for me, and I am sure that anyone who would try this in their units will have the same results that I had.

ONION CREEK CLUB

Onion Creek Golf Course is one of the primier courses in the country. We have had tournaments here that have been seen by millions of people on national TV. It is critical that we keep the course in excellent condition all year long for our players and guest. AMSOIL helps us do this.

As head mechanic over about 50 pieces of equipment since 1985, I can say with authority that using AMSOIL in all of our machines since April 1990 has made it much easier to take care of everything. Since I often talk with guys at other golf courses, and know what they are doing as well as the problems they are having, I know we have much less trouble and failures with our equipment than the golf courses that are not using AMSOIL. We all use similar equipment but not everyone uses AMSOIL, and this is the reason our machines hold up so good.

The cost for the oil and hydraulic fluid is more initially, but the savings in maintenance, the cooler operation, the fact that this units are so clean inside and have very little wear all makes the cost of the oil not so important as the performance and protection it gives us. One product that is really is the 2 cycle oil, with the 100:1 mix we just use one ratio for all engines, so our little 2 cycle engines in several brands, like Stihl and Echo, just keep purring with very few problems at all.

We use the 15w-40 Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine Oil in all of gas and deisel engines.

Some people may not know that at a golf course like Onion Creek we mow seven days per week on some parts of the course. We can easily put 1,000 hours per year on our mowers. If anyone uses their equipment that much they better be using AMSOIL or be prepared to buy some more equipment pretty often. We plan on keeping our machines in service at least 5 years or more.
